Our Concerns
 

There is a Very little public awareness about the condition. Due to lack of knowledge, parents can not take care of their DS kids properly and as a result, Parents and the DS individuals suffer tremendously. In our opinion, parents and the families suffer much more because of the ignorance of the condition, than the disease itself. No special education and care centre is available all over the country exclusively dedicated for the cause. Although it is the preventable condition, due to lack of knowledge of the prevention modalities, its incidence is very high among the live births (1 in 800). If understood properly, with proper support and care DS individuals and their parents can lead a very happy and comfortable life. With early intervention, these individuals can lead a reasonably healthy and dignified life.

Like each of us, DS Individuals have a right to be treated as an individual, not to be discriminated in the community, speak and listened to, have access to community services and education, have the necessary support to enable to make responsible choices, have opportunity for socialization within the community, make informed choices about their lives and be safe and grow into responsible adults. DSCA is established to support the DS individuals and families of DS at all the possible levels

We need your help for the following activities

• For creating a stock of educational material taking into account the special needs of the DS individuals
• For creating, publishing and distributing the Literature on the various aspects of DS for public awareness
• For Conducting regular health check up camps for the DS individuals
• For having a permanent place for material for genetic counseling of families having or at risk of having a child with DS
• For training the volunteers with minimum remuneration as the care takers for DS individuals
• For opening a special school (residential) for DS individuals
• For paying the staff (minimum honorarium) which will co-ordinate all the activities of DSCA
• For doing research on management options and preventive modalities of the condition
• Simple exhibition (Movable) on the Down’s Syndrome related issues for General public awareness
• DNA Exhibition- movable for schools, colleges, etc. for Genetic Health Awareness
• Making small meditation room with light instrumental musical system for DS Children and Parents
• For developing and maintaining a specially designed garden for the overall development.
• For having a rehabilitation workshop

Our Immediate Needs

• For opening the special school for DS individuals, we need a land of our own
• Minimum construction on the land.
• Basic amenities at the school like chairs(100), specially designed benches and desks for classrooms, tables, computers, cupboards, electricity, water fittings, garden, indoor and outdoor games, a television, a sound system, LCD projector, fans, tube lights, miscellaneous
•  corpus of around Rs. 10,00,000/- for regular activities
• A vehicle with a capacity of around 50 seats for carrying the DS students from home to school/the activity centre.
• A library for school with books, magazines, special educational material
